
Anthony J. “Tony” Santino, 64, a respected and influential public servant, passed away on November 7, 2025, following an undisclosed illness. Born and raised in East Rockaway, New York, Santino dedicated his life to public service, leaving a lasting impact on the Town of Hempstead, the Village of East Rockaway, and the greater Nassau County community. His passing marks the end of a career defined by leadership, integrity, and unwavering commitment to his hometown.
Santino’s career spanned more than four decades, beginning at just 22 years old when he joined the East Rockaway village board. He later served as deputy mayor and ultimately as supervisor of the Town of Hempstead, one of the nation’s largest towns. Colleagues consistently praised his deep knowledge of government, his tireless work ethic, and his ability to build meaningful connections with residents and community leaders alike. His contributions shaped local policies and left a lasting imprint on the governance of Long Island.
A proud graduate of Centre Avenue School and East Rockaway High School, Santino earned his bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, from St. John’s University. He began his professional life in public service working for U.S. Representative Norman F. Lent, rising to district director. His intelligence, discipline, and dedication were hallmarks of both his academic and professional life.
Beyond government, Santino was a devoted family man and a pillar of the community. For over 40 years, he served as a lector at St. Raymond’s Church and was active in civic and fraternal organizations, including the Knights of Columbus, East Rockaway Kiwanis Club, and the Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America. His legacy is one of leadership, mentorship, and a lifelong devotion to East Rockaway, New York, and the people he served so passionately.
